Types of Committees
Committees generally fall into three categories. Use the tabs above to browse each group.
Select / Special
Often created to study issues, run investigations, or handle work that doesn’t fit neatly within standing committee jurisdiction. Some are temporary; some are long-running.
Joint
Composed of Members from both chambers. Joint committees typically focus on studies or administrative/oversight functions rather than moving legislation directly.
Note: Conference committees exist to reconcile House/Senate versions of legislation, but they’re not a standing directory category.
